Web Site Guides Parents About Dangerous Toys

David Goodhue – AHN Reporter Chicago, IL (AHN) – A public advocacy group has created a Web site that parents can use while shopping to research dangerous toys. The Illinois Public Interest Group designed the site, www.toysafety.mobi, as a guide that can be researched by smart phone as toy buyers shop or by their personal computers before they venture out this holiday season. The Chicago Sun-Times cites the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s latest report revealing that toy-related injuries sent more than 82,000 children under 5 years old to the emergency room in 2008. Nineteen children died that year from accidents involving toys. The website deals with three categories – toys that may pose choking hazards, toys that are excessively loud and toys that contain the toxic chemicals lead and phthalates.
